Sometimes it’s useful to send the same message to multiple addresses. You can’t send bulk email directly from Sodadb, to protect us from spammers. But there are several options, we’ll discuss two in this tutorial.
1. Send bulk email from your local emailclient (suitable for small mailings).
Click Option Menu – Export your data . Select the column that holds your emailaddresses in the dropdown under Export emails to mailinglist. Once the export is complete, click the download link and save the file to your computer.
Next step is to open the .csv file in a simple texteditor, like Windows Notepad or much better PNotepad (Right click on the file, Open with – choose Notepad). Copy all addresses with CTRL-C and open your default mailclient. I am using Thunderbird, great software and free. Create a new message and paste the addresses in the bcc: field. Type your own emailaddress in the to: field. Send it and you’re done.
2. Send bulk email with sendgrid.com
Sendgrid offers online email delivery software. There is a free version (max. 200 emails each day), and a few paid versions. If you are serious in sending out mailings, this is a great and affordable option. The flow of Sendgrid application is not great, confusing at times, but so be it.
In Sodadb click Option Menu – Export your data . Type the fields that hold the names and the emailaddressed in the field under Export multi columns for labels. For instance, you have these columns:
Name, Address, City, Email
You need to export Name and Email. Type #Name#,#Email#
Once the export is complete, click the download link and save the file to your computer.
Create and login on your account at Sendgrid. Click the My account link located on the top right of the page. Click apps on the top of the page. Then click My Newsletters on the right. If this link isn’t there, scroll down the page, there is another link.
Now you’re at your newsletter dashboard. Create a new newsletter (or use an existing one) with Create new. Fill in the details. In step 2, you need to create a list, click the create a list link for this. This is the part where your downloaded .csv file comes in. Enter a list name and click continue. Now click the upload .csv button and browse to the downloaded file. Follow all the next steps and you’re ready to send out your e-mails.
If you already created a newsletter app, you can skip all the steps above and update your list directly by clicking Manage under My recepients lists. Hover over your list and click the update button to upload your new .csv file.
